This pill roller (or pill machine), has a marble slab and collector tray. The pill roller was invented about 1750 in Germany and not probably not many years later was in use in colonial America. This pill roller is c.1870. They were used by the pharmacist to make pills. They made up a pill mass, like a dough, and used the roller to cut and size the pills. They were further processed with shapers on pill tiles, etc. The pill roller is in good condition including the collector tray which is usually missing. The marble slab is not as common an a wooden one. The two pieces weigh 8 lbs 14.5 oz. The bottom part of the piece measures 14″ by 8.25″ by 1.75″ and the top measures 16.5″ by 2.75″ by 1.5″.
