Brass powder flask - Peace Flask, sku # 8108

Peace flask by NP Ames, 1838.

This large black powder flask was made by Nathan P Ames of  Cabotville, (now Chicopee) Mass. The peace flask by Ames was the first such made for the US Army beginning in 1837. In the motif are clasped hands in a circle of stars  with a US shield and various ordinance around it. The patent top is marked NPAmes, 1838 and an inspectors mark of NS. There are two triangular shaped carry rings The interior spring is broken, otherwise the flask is in good condition. The flask measures 9″ by 4″ by 1 3/4″ and weighs 13.1 ozs.
